Book #12: Courage to Sparkle by Lois Barth

❤ Book #12 review from my 50 Books 2018 Challenge!

❤ You can read about my initial challenge progress, and check out all the books I’m reading this year here. I got off track, but I’m back at it now!

Courage to Sparkle

The Audacious Girls’ Guide to Creating A Life That Lights You Up, by Lois Barth

Ever feel like you’ve lost your sparkle?

Lost your ability to love and accept yourself for the unique human that you are?

I’ve been there, time and time again.

Luckily, this time around, I found this gem of a book that has all the tools I need to love myself and shine again.

“Let’s step into our ability to be audacious and take the risks that will support us in manifesting our dreams.
Audacity is one of the best antidotes to perfectionism I know.
While perfectionism weighs us down, the brazen energy of Audacity inspires, enlightens, and lights us up!”

I randomly purchased Courage to Sparkle on Amazon, I don’t even remember why or when, but when it showed up at my apartment door I knew it was fate.

I put on a brave face most of the time, but the truth is I often have trouble finding the courage to truly sparkle and be my true self. I went through a rough divorce a couple years ago and I’m still fighting a lot of the insecurities that came with it.

“Courage to SPARKLE… puts equal emphasis on what makes us feel most alive and engaged in our lives as well as strategically addressing our resistances and moving through them.”

I read this in a few days while I was on vacation with my family in Aruba, and it lit up my world. I could feel Lois’ vibes and positive energy and love oozing from the book — I will definitely be re-reading this book as often as needed.

At first I was worried that this book would be too similiar to Jen Sincero’s “You Are A Badass” which was book #6, and although both were self help books — they are written and formatted completely different and I had a totally different experience with this book and with Lois as an author.

If you’re looking for a unique, positive, encouraging, fun to read self help book, this is your jam. I loved Lois’ vulnerability, and appreciate exposing her own fears and secrets for us to learn from.

“When we allow the vitality of our spirit and our passions to guide our actions and behaviors, we automatically give others permission to do the same.
As a result, we all reap the benefits of a world with greater self-expression, freedom, and joie de vivre.”

The more that Lois’ shared about her own unfulfilled goals and deep dark secrets, the more it felt like she was giving me the freedom to the same with my own.

Courage to Sparkle is a guidebook, and will challenge you to face your own bullshit, name your big dreams, and pull through better than you were before.

I’d recommend journaling along with this read, as there are exercises in every chapter that will help you dig deep.

You’ll go through the process of finding your sparkle, letting your true self shine through, learning how to lighten up, firing your perfectionist, shining in your career, starting a circle of support, and creating a life that lights you up.
